The workshop consists of hands on experience, building prototypes and talk sessions.
Tutorial 1, Nov 29th, 15.30-18.00 Organizers: Seungmoon Choi (POSTECH, Korea), Shogo Okamoto (Nagoya University, Japan) Researchers and developers working in haptics have frequent needs to evaluate their haptic systems (or components) in terms of the user’s perception. This requirement is natural since haptics is essentially about interface to and interaction with users. However, appropriate perceptual evaluation is not a trivial task, and haptics researchers and developers sometimes have difficulty in the proper design and data analysis of perceptual experiments, which have the root in cognitive psychology. In this tutorial, we aim to help haptics researchers and developers, mostly with engineering and computer science background, better understand and use experimental methods for the perceptual evaluation of haptic systems by introducing experimental methods that are frequently used for that purpose.
Workshop 1, Nov 29th, 15.30-18.00 Organizers: Yuichi Kurita (Hiroshima University, Japan), Yoshihiro Tanaka (Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan) Objective:This workshop will discuss how we feel force, and try to design comfortable weight. It is composed of lectures, and a hands-on experience program of making various products. Through this workshop, we expect that the participants will be interested in what comfortable weight is, understand the applicability and potentiality of comfortable weight, and have an idea for basic researches of comfort perception and applications into industrial products. Significance and Impact: Our workshop gives broader impacts for participants. As stated above, understanding the weight feeling is important not only for raising proper questions in haptics research but also for applying this knowledge into consumer product design in manufacturing. We handle both of these topics at the same time and provide participants with comprehensive understanding of weight feeling. Proposed workshop is the best opportunity for learning the outcome of basic research on the weight perception in short time. (about 30 participants max)
Workshop 2, Nov 29th, 15.30-18.00 Organizers: Kouta Minamizawa (Keio University, Japan) Coming soon... (about 30 participants max)
